The New Jersey State Elks is holding a Youth Sports Tournament July 20-22, 2008 at Fernwood Resort in The Poconos. Competition in Bowling, Golf and Tennis is open to all boys &   girls ages 13 to 18. There is no cost to the student athlete or the their school and scholarships will be awarded to the best competitor in each sport. Registration deadline is July 3, 2008.

The Thornton Sisters Foundation is a nonprofit corporation organized for the purpose of annually providing one or more one-year educational scholarship(s) to deserving young females of color. The scholarship(s) shall be used to contribute to the students’ college tuition and/or books depending upon the amount of fund available to the foundation for that fiscal year. All completed applications with their supporting documents must be postmarked no later than May 7, 2008.

The Wiss Edward W. O’Connell Memorial Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship awarded to New Jersey  residents pursuing accounting degrees at New Jersey colleges or universities. If the requirements are met, each of the high school seniors will receive a minimum $2,000 scholarship. Visit www.wiss.com for information. Deadline has been extended to April 23, 2008.

Do you know a teen who is interested in fashion, retail, community service, making new friends and having fun? Then encourage them to fill out an application for the Cumberland Mall Style Squad. The Style Squad runs June 2008 from June 2009. The program is open to anyone between the ages of 13 and 18, is a student at a local high school who has maintained a B average in their academics and is dependable, cooperative and willing to meet the commitments of the program. Interested teens should return a completed application and photograph to the mall office by April 30, 2008.

The Italian American Political Club of Cumberland County’s Italian Masters Scholarship offers a $500 award to one male and one female student from each area high school. Students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average for 4 years of high school, must have been a participant in a citizenship club, leadership club or sport for at least 2 years, must have maintained a 90% attendance record in each of four years of high school, must be clear of any disciplinary action and must have a college commitment. Completed applications must be returned to the Guidance Office by April 15, 2008.

The Dr. Charles S. Rasner Scholarship, given annually by the Bridgeton Lions Club, will again be offered to graduating high school seniors of local high schools. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student based on plans to pursue a health-related career (not mandatory), financial need, any visual or physical handicap, school & community involvement and academic ability. All criteria will be equally weighted but not essential. All materials should be turned into the Guidance Office before April 17, 2008.

Alpha Delta Kappa – NJ Chi Chapter offers the $500 Gayle Riley Memorial Scholarship to female students wishing to pursue a career in education. Completed applications must be submitted not later than April 25, 2008.

A scholarship ranging from $500 to $2,000 is being offered by the Jon M. Pritsch Memorial Golf Fund. It is available to any New Jersey high school senior who has played on their school’s golf team and desires to pursue a career in golf. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on May 15, 2008.

The Community Foundation of New Jersey offers several scholarships to students. The Alfred J. Speak Scholarship supports the education of young men and women in the State of New Jersey. This fund provides scholarships to deserving and disadvantaged individuals to assist them in attending any educational institution in the U.S. It offers five scholarships in the amount of $4,438, payable in four equal payments annually. The Dominique Lisa Pandolfo Scholarship will be awarded to a female student, as nominated by the scholarship committee, who best exemplifies certain criteria with an emphasis placed on financial need. It is in the amount of $5,000, payable in four equal payments annually. The Clanseer & Anna Johnson Scholarship provides financial assistance to disadvantaged African American students who were born in the U.S. and reside in N.J. They must have obtained an average of A or B in subjects relating to the sciences or mathematics and maintain above average grades overall in whatever curriculum they are pursuing. Four scholarships of $6,500 are available, payable in four equal payments annually. The Harry H. Loudenslager Scholarship provides financial assistance to a worthy young man who resides in Camden, Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland or Cape May counties. Two non-renewable scholarships are offered in the amount of $1,000, payable in a lump sum for the 2008-09 academic year. The Elizabeth Clark Loudenslager Scholarship provides financial assistance to a worthy young woman who resides in Camden, Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland or Cape May counties. Two non-renewable scholarships are offered in the amount of $1,000, payable in a lump sum for the 2008-09 academic year. Applications must be postmarked by April 21, 2008. The New Jersey Retirees’ Education Association is offering two scholarships. The 2-Year Community College Scholarship Award is $500 for one year (renewable) to a student who will graduate from a New Jersey public high school this year and has been accepted by a community college. The Isabelle M. Hickman 4-Year College Scholarship Award offers $1,000 for one year (renewable) to a student who will graduate from a New Jersey public high school this year, is in the top 10 percent of their graduating class and has been accepted by a 4-year college. Applications are due by April 15, 2008. They can be downloaded off the NJEA website under NJREA.

The University of Delaware is offering a Summer College Program for academically curious and talented current sophomores and juniors. The 5-week residential pre-college experience will be held July 12 to August 16, 2008. Their website, www.udel.edu/summercollege, contains a wealth of information about the program and includes downloadable application forms. Application deadline is May 15, 2008.

Nominations are being accepted for the Russell Sage College Student Sage Scholarship. Nominees will be eligible for a scholarship ranging from $7,000 to $16,000. To be nominated you must be a young woman in 11th grade. Deadline is April 4, 2008.

Scholarships totaling over $4,200 will be awarded to students from South Jersey who will be attending Penn State in the fall of 2008 through the Parent/Gajecki Scholarship, Penn State Club of Southern New Jersey. Applications are due no later than April 14, 2008.

Summer of Art is an intensive, four-week, pre-college program for students 15 and older who wish to experience art and design in an extraordinary art college environment. Serious young artists seeking to strengthen and enhance their art skills, as well as students with limited art training are invited to participate. The program will be held July 7 through August 1, 2008 at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, Calif. For information, visit www.otis.edu/soa.

ASSE International is looking for host families to provide room and board to exchange students. This is a reimbursed volunteer program. More information can be found at www.asse.com.

The New Jersey School Building and Grounds Association will be awarding three financial scholarships this year in the amount of $1,000 each. Each recipient will be a graduating high school student at a New Jersey School Building and Grounds Association member’s school district seeking admission to a college, university or vocational college program where final completion provides a degree or marketable skill. Applications must be postmarked on or before April 15, 2008.

The Nelnet $1Million Scholarship Giveaway is open to all juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years of age. No essay is required to enter or win. There will be 10 Grand Prizes of scholarships of up to $25,000 to cover one year of undergraduate college costs and 750 First Prizes of $1,000 scholarships to help pay for undergraduate college costs. Simply fill out the online entry form at www.nelnet.com/win. Students or parents can enter daily to increase their chances of winning. Drawings will be held monthly through August 8, 2008.

Junior Statesmen Summer Programs are being offered at four of the most prestigious universities in the world: Georgetown, Yale, Princeton and Stanford. Programs are also offered for the Democratic and Republican national conventions. For further information visit  www.jsa.org.

Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded by the NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation. All applications must be received the Foundation’s office no later than April 18, 2008.

Job Corps is a hands on career training and education program that can help students find the path to personal and career success – all at no cost to eligible youth. They provide income-eligible young men and women, ages 16 through 24, with an opportunity to gain the experience they need to begin a career or advance to higher education. Johnson & Wales University’s Chancellor’s Scholarship Program gives high school achievers an opportunity to earn renewable scholarships, valued from $7,500 to full tuition. Scholarship recipients are chosen from students who are accepted into the university’s honors program. Johnson & Wales also offers the Presidential Scholarship, valued at up to $5,000 annually. Applicants automatically receive scholarship consideration as part of their application process. The preferred method of applying is online at www.jwu.edu. No deadline is specified.

The Pre-college Academy at NJIT is a program for academically talented high school students who want to begin their college careers while still in high school. Participants earn college credits in small, customized classes. Summer 2008 Semester courses meet Monday through Thursday with the academic calendar beginning on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. The University of Delaware Summer College for current sophomores and juniors will be held July 12 through August 16, 2008.Students will spend five weeks taking freshman-level college courses for UD credit. For more information, visit www.udel.edu/summercollege.

The New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association is providing 20 student leadership scholarships of $2,500 to graduating seniors for their demonstrated leadership in school activities. To be considered for nomination student must submit a one page essay on the topic “The Importance of Student Involvement in School Activities” and a resume indicating leadership positions they have held and their contributions to their school while in these positions to their Guidance Counselor by April 4, 2008.

The National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NBCFAE) Technical Center Region announces its annual call for applicants for its Scholarship Award Program. The NVCFAE offers cash awards to senior high school students who have been accepted to an institution of higher learning (college, university or trade/vocational institute) for the advancement of their academic skills. Applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2008.

The Douglass Project for Rutgers Women in Math, Science and Engineering in collaboration with the Office for the Promotion of Women in Science is accepting applications for Project SUPER (Science for Undergraduates: A Program for Excellence in Research), an enrichment program that provides programming and funding opportunities for undergraduate women pursuing the science for fours years of undergraduate study. Project SUPER offers students: a summer orientation (July 7-July 9, 2008) designed to introduce students to the options and opportunities for studying science at Rutgers University; peer and faculty mentoring opportunities; an undergraduate credit-bearing-course; Introduction to Scientific Research; programs and workshops designed to help students find success in the sciences and undergraduate research experiences in the science, math, engineering and technology. Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, NJ  will hold its Construction Industry Career Day April 25 (for just juniors) and April 26, 2008. Students can explore the dozens of construction-related exhibits and demonstrations designed especially for young men and women interested in a challenging and rewarding career. Admission is free and a complimentary lunch is provided. Sign up in the Guidance Office. A minimum of one chaperone is required for every 10 students.

The New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association, Inc. is pleased to sponsor a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior in the class of 2008 who has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The application is available for download at http://njcfsa/org. Submission deadline in April 18, 2008.

The Marine Trades Association of New Jersey is offering three education scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year. The first scholarship has a value of $1,500 that can be applied towards any marine trades program at any school. The second scholarship is a full scholarship to attend Pennco Tech in Blackwood, NJ for the Marine Technician Program and the third is a full scholarship for the Marine Service Technology Program at the Automotive Training Center in Pennsylvania. All scholarships have criteria that need to be met. Scholarship details are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is May 1, 2008.

The New Jersey Post of the Society of American Military Engineers is offering scholarships to high schools students in grade 10-12 to attend of the their nationally recognized engineering and construction summer camps. Visit www.same.org for information on each camp and requirements.

Any graduating senior from an accredited Cumberland or Salem county high school who plans to pursue a degree in the Performing Arts may be eligible for the Off Broad Street Players Scholarship. This scholarship is in the amount of $1,000 and is available on a countywide basis. Application deadline is May 1, 2008.

The Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey is pleased to announce the existence of a scholarship program for New Jersey high school seniors who have epilepsy. They anticipate offering at least three $1,000 awards. Applications and supporting documents are due May 16, 2008.

Applications are being accepted for The John & Irene Papines Scholarship. Applicants for this award must reside in Atlantic, Cape May or Cumberland County and should be of Greek heritage. Deadline is May 1, 2008.

Harvard Summer School Secondary School Program for high school seniors, juniors and sophomores will be held June 22-August 15, 2008. For further information visit  www.ssp.harvard.edu.

The Edward Pinson Scholarship Committee would like to invite all 2008 graduating seniors to apply for this year’s scholarship awards. The Pinson Scholarship is available to ALL students with varied aspirations for their careers. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 18, 2008.

Any high school senior who will be continuing their education at a four-year college and intends to major in Public Administration/Public Policy is eligible for the New Jersey Municipal Management Association Scholarship. Application deadline is April 7, 2008.

The Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia is offering several scholarships to students of Greek descent or declared majors in Greek Studies. Applications for these scholarships are available through their website at www.hucphila.org.

The Billy Consalo Memorial Agricultural Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 is offered to students who are furthering their education in agriculture or an agriculturally related field at a college, university, technical, business, trade school or other institute of higher learning. Deadline for application is May 1, 2008.

Girls Going Places is Guardian Life Insurance Company’s annual initiative designed to reward enterprising and community-minded girls ages 12 to 18. Guardian grants cash prizes to girls who demonstrate budding entrepreneurship; taking the first steps toward financial independence; and making a difference in their schools and communities. Prizes are awarded as follows: $10,000, first place; $5,000, second place; $3,000, third place; and twelve $1,000 finalist prizes. Prizes are awarded to help winners and finalists continue their entrepreneurial pursuits and save for college. Nominees must submit a personal statement of no more than 250 words and a 750-word letter of endorsement from an adult (parent, teacher, mentor). The Builders League of South Jersey Scholarship Foundation will offer five financial aid awards of up to $3,000 in 2008. Aid is limited to high school graduates who live in or attend school in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester or Salem counties. It is available only to students who will attend or are attending a vocational program or an accredited post-secondary school full time, pursuing a course of study related to the fields of real estate development or construction. The 2008 Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement Award is being offered to qualified students. Top national winners will receive a $500 cash scholarship, all-expense paid week of leadership training in Seattle, college essay preparation assistance, scholarship search assistance and much more.
