Superintendent Carl Dolente welcomes Colt Nation to 2022-2023 school year
Greetings, Colt Nation:
We are excited to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year at Cumberland Regional High School with optimism and enthusiasm. As we prepare to kick off the school year on Tuesday, Sept. 6, we would like to share a few updates, announcements, and reminders.
Health and Safety Plans
Students and parents/guardians are asked to visit our district website, www.crhsd.org, regularly for updates and vital information, such as our health and safety plans related to COVID-19. The Safe Return Plan prepared by our Pandemic Response Team for the 2022-2023 school year is detailed on our website under the Announcements section.
Guidelines for the upcoming school year include:- Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 will be required to quarantine for five (5) days and must wear a mask for days 6-10 upon their return. Positive results must be reported promptly to the nurses’ office.
- Mask-wearing will be strongly encouraged but not required in most situations, with the exception of students or staff returning from quarantine.
- Our nurses will continue working with the county health department to conduct contact tracing. Any student or staff member identified as a close contact with a COVID-positive case will be notified by email at the end of the school day. Close contacts are encouraged to test regularly for COVID-19 and monitor for symptoms.
- Students or staff experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should stay home and test regularly.

District Pandemic Response Team develops Safe Return Plan for 2022-2023 school year
The CRHS Pandemic Response Team has developed the following Safe Return Plan for the 2022-2023 school year:
1) Universal and Correct Wearing of Masks
At the end of the 2021-2022 school year, Cumberland Regional was “Mask Optional” for students and staff. We will continue to be “Mask Optional” for the 2022-2023 school year unless masking requirements/recommendations are put in place by the NJ Department of Education, Health Department, or Governor’s Office.
2) Physical Distancing
Class sizes and number of students are being monitored to allow for social distancing. When that is not possible, we are utilizing larger instructional spaces. Lunches are the greatest concerns. Therefore, we have included an additional lunch period in our daily schedule to allow for greater social distancing.
3) Handwashing and Respiratory Etiquette
Effective handwashing is encouraged throughout our school for students and staff. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer has been made available throughout the building.
4) Cleaning and Maintaining Healthy Facilities
Our entire ventilation system was upgraded in 2019. We also upgraded to stronger filters for our system. Most rooms are on their own filtration system.
5) Contact Tracing
Our nurses work with the county health department to complete all contact tracing. Any student/staff member deemed a close contact will be notified via email by the close of each school day. Close contacts are encouraged to test for COVID-19 and monitor for symptoms related to COVID-19.
6) Diagnostic and Screening Testing
All testing is done by outside agencies. Notification comes through our county health department. We stay in close contact with that department to expedite all results, and actions needed. We will continue this practice and procedure during the 2022-2023 school year. Students or staff who test positive for COVID-19 must submit documentation of positive test result to the district Nurses’ Office.
7) Efforts to Provide Vaccinations
Cumberland Regional has worked with our county health department and local health care partners to hold vaccination clinics here at the school for anyone interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.

Message from Superintendent Carl Dolente

Welcome to Colt Nation, where our philosophy on education is straightforward: It is our responsibility as educators to help prepare every child for the world of tomorrow. The high school experience must empower every young person with the knowledge and skills necessary to be a happy, productive, independent, and thriving member of our society. In order to accomplish this task, we have to create multiple pathways linked to a variety of experiences, both in the classroom and extending far beyond the walls of CRHS. Whether an individual chooses to go on to college, begin a career, or serve in the military after graduation, it is imperative that they move on from Cumberland Regional as a well-rounded, critical thinker capable of any task set before them on their journey. I strive to bolster pride in our district by enhancing our school culture and supporting an even stronger sense of community and school spirit to provide every Colt with unforgettable memories from their four years of high school.
