CRHS Agricultural Sciences Academy

Careers in the agricultural sciences address a growing range of needs related to agriculture, food and nutrition, and natural resources not just in the Garden State, but throughout the nation as well as the international community. Students in the program work collaboratively and use critical thinking to solve complex problems and achieve common goals including finding solutions in real-life contexts. Through experiences within and outside of the classroom, students build content knowledge and technical skills directly related to in-demand fields in agribusiness, forestry, plant biotechnology, wildlife management, and other critical areas related to society’s health and economic stability. Technology, computer applications, and scientific research practices are integrated in studies as critical components of agriculture-related work as students consider the ethical, environmental, social and economic impacts of agricultural practices to become responsible, involved citizens prepared to meet increasingly challenging global agriculture, food, and natural resource industry needs.

The Agricultural Science program offers two, four-year pathways of study (Plant Science and Animal Science) utilizing the nationally recognized Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education (CASE). Courses offered include CASE Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources; Principles of Agricultural Science – Plant; Principles of Agricultural Science – Animal; Food Science and Safety; and Agricultural Research and Development, in addition to electives such as Floriculture. Participation in the Cumberland Regional chapter of the National FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) Organization provides students with additional opportunities for leadership development, personal growth, and career success through career and leadership development events, conferences, and other activities at the local, state, and national level.

Students also will have the opportunity to earn dual credit through partnerships with Rutgers University and Rowan College of South Jersey.
