Cumberland Regional honors 2020 Teacher of the Year, Educational Services Professional of the Year
The Cumberland Regional School District congratulates 2020 Cumberland Regional High School Teacher of the Year Christine Fuller and Educational Services Professional of the Year Marisa Rizzo.
Teacher of the Year
Since joining the district in 2004, Christine Fuller has proven to be an exceptionally skilled and dedicated educator who demonstrates leadership and innovation within and outside of the classroom. As leader of the CRHS Business Academy, Mrs. Fuller investigated, proposed, and implemented the national, project-based, industry-validated High School of Business curriculum, making Cumberland Regional the first High School of Business site in the state of New Jersey. Connecting Cumberland Regional with the community, she partnered with Members 1st Credit Union to bring a school-wide Reality Fair to give CRHS students the opportunity to participate in a hands-on workshop on personal budgeting, in addition to creating job shadowing experiences for third-year business students at the Danone of North America (formerly WhiteWave) facility in Bridgeton. In addition, as adviser of Cumberland Regional’s FBLA chapter for the past 17 years, Mrs. Fuller has dedicated an exceptional amount of time and effort to leading participation of more than 80 student members in FBLA state and national conferences and business and community service activities.
A true lifelong learner, Mrs. Fuller has shown commitment to her field, personal growth, and craft, and she has been generous in sharing this knowledge base with her colleagues. Her achievements have included completing her master’s degree through Wilmington University, earning multiple certifications related to business education, and participating in the Insurance Institute for Educators at St. John’s University and the Foundation for Teaching Economics at the University of Illinois. Most recently, Mrs. Fuller completed 42 Microsoft Educators courses focused on Microsoft Teams, remote learning, and student engagement online; this experience earned her the 2020-2021 Microsoft Innovator Educator Certificate and has added vital expertise to the professional development resources at CRHS, as she has stepped up to train Cumberland Regional educators to support a rapid transition to remote and hybrid learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mrs. Fuller is highly respected for establishing high standards for student academic and behavioral performance and supporting students in meeting these goals. Her enthusiasm and dedication are an inspiration and an incredible source of Colt Pride, and we are honored to recognize her as our 2020 Teacher of the Year.
Educational Services Professional of the Year
As Assistant to the Athletic Supervisor/Athletic Trainer, Health Science teacher, and coordinator of student activities, 2020 Educational Services Professional of the Year Marisa Rizzo has a truly unique and far-reaching role in the Cumberland Regional family.
Upon joining the district in 2016, Ms. Rizzo immediately became a vital part of Colts athletics, bringing experience from Neumann University, Villanova University, and Rosemont College to treat and prevent injuries and support our student-athletes in achieving their goals safely. She is a driving force behind Colt Pride, managing the logistics for student activities such as homecoming, pep rallies, tailgates, Spirit Weeks, and graduation, not to mention her day-to-day contributions to school spirit as a trusted liaison between CRHS and the school community and as a friendly face at Colts games, matches, and other events.
In addition, Ms. Rizzo has shared her expertise to expand Cumberland Regional’s academic offerings into Sports Medicine. Her courses offer CRHS students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through labs, group activities, and college-level projects that prepare them for advanced studies and highly fulfilling, in-demand careers.
Ms. Rizzo is known for her excellence promoting sportsmanship, putting student-athletes and families at ease even in the face of injury, and creating an environment of respect and rapport. We are proud and grateful to recognize her as Cumberland Regional’s 2020 Educational Services Professional of the Year.
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Fuller and Ms. Rizzo on their proud accomplishments!
