CRHS celebrates October 2021 Students & Staff of the Month

Cumberland Regional High School congratulates the October 2021 CRHS Students and Staff of the Month

Students and staff were nominated and selected because they demonstrated characteristics which align to living the C.O.L.T.S. Life at Cumberland Regional High School:
Caring
Optimistic
Leadership
Team Player
Self Discipline

Student of the Month, 9th grade: Dallas Sprouse
"Dallas demonstrated caring by inviting a student to sit at her table at lunch. The student was sitting alone, and Dallas convinced her table that the student should not be alone and asked him to sit with them. Being kind is always the right thing -- great job, Dallas!"

Student of the Month, 9th grade: Chase Pepper
"Chase is an outstanding student. He is a self-starter who always puts forth his best effort. Chase always makes sure he gets his work done. If Chase is absent or misses class, he makes sure to get his missing work and complete it as soon as possible. Chase is respectful and a role model to his peers. Keep up the good work!"

Student of the Month, 10th grade: Bernasia Burden
"Bernasia is not only a great student, but also a great person. Bernasia works hard every day in my class, and she is kind and helpful. Bernasia cares about her success in class and is always willing to ask questions. I really enjoy having Bernasia as one of my students this semester!"

Student of the Month, 10th grade: Marlon Grannell
"Mar is enthusiastic constantly in class, and helps his classmates become more motivated to learn material and recap prior reading. Not only does he make his classmates feel more prepared for any assessment, but his spirited participation helps the entire class dig deeper into anything we're doing. Mar wants to be a pharmacist when he's older, and optimistically says that 'Nothing will stop [him].' Such a great student who is definitely going places!"

Student of the Month, 11th grade: Coralys Burgos Burgos
"Cory is AWESOME!! She comes to class every day with a smile on her face. She has such a positive outlook. She always comes to class prepared and eager to learn!! Her energy is infectious!! It is a bonus that she laughs at my corny jokes as well!! Cory is an excellent example of a Colt living the COLTS life!!"

Student of the Month, 11th grade: Michael Gomez
"Acceleration problems can be challenging, but Michael Gomez is doing amazing work in Physics. He is the first to participate in class discussions and continually volunteers to post solutions. Michael's true Physics superpower, however, is his willingness to help his classmates. He is the ultimate Board Buddy and is always willing to take the extra time to explain the given information, an equation rearrange, or the math behind a solution to any classmate who asks. We all benefit from having Michael in our Block 1 Physics class!"

Student of the Month, 12th grade: Laynie Sheppard
"Laynie is always so positive in class. She brightens up the room, she's always willing to participate, and she makes sure she is welcoming and kind to everyone. I also love that Laynie is always willing to keep trying and not give up on learning the material, even if she doesn't get it at first. She never gives up. It's nice to end my day with Laynie in my 4th block. Keep working hard, Laynie!"

Student of the Month, 12th grade: Jovaun Simmons
"I chose Jovaun as a Student of the Month because when I was walking through the halls to my classroom carrying multiple bags, Jovaun came alongside me and asked if he could help me. I was so grateful for his help. I loved that he took the initiative to help a teacher in need. It definitely showed his caring side!!!"

STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE MONTH:
Boys Soccer: Jair Angel
"Jair is not only a 4th-year player for Cumberland, but he is also a 4th-year varsity starter and has started his entire career as a center mid for the Colts. Jair was a captain last year and has continued to show great leadership to this team as a captain again this year. Jair Angel is the backbone of this program, the epitome of hustle and proper pressure, and is always the hardest-working player on the field. Jair helps stop opponents in their attack and can dribble through some of the best defenders out there. Jair has 5 goals and an impressive 14 assists in his career wearing Colts orange."

Cheerleading: Tiana Jackson
"Tiana has been extremely dedicated to cheer. She shows up to all practices and games with a smile. She takes time to help teach our new girls. She brings life into our practices and games. She even made a connection with a football player's little sister, who really loves cheerleading. Tiana is a great role model and will be missed when she graduates."

STAFF OF THE MONTH:
Matt Lawrence-Evans
"Matt has taken on a new role at CRHS and has shown great leadership and collaboration. He has implemented Mindful Mornings for our students who are learning remotely due to quarantining as well as worked to set up a new referral process for all of the counselors. Matt did a great job of organizing the candy compliment drive. It is great to see the students complimenting others to show the level of caring about each other in our school. Being nice is something that is overlooked, and it is great to see Matt making people smile!"

Erica Fox
"Erica truly cares about her students and their wellbeing. She works extra hard to ensure that sutdents returning from Q cohort catch up on the work they didn't do and that they understand the material. This week I was able to help Erica out with one of her biology classes because she took on the enormous task of teaching all four blocks for a few months. Her students were so kind, so well behaved, and were doing so well with the assignments that she gave them. You can tell she really cares about her students and works hard to build positive relationships with them."

Alex Farquhar
"Mr. Farquhar is consistently going above and beyond for our students. Just this past month, he put in time after school to make sure students get home safely, promotes student health and wellness in his lunch duty, and consistently has a positive outlook. His professional mannerisms, calm demeanor in any situation, and caring disposition are displayed in his work on a daily basis. Alex is quick to respond and often offers help before he is even asked. Thank you, Alex, for all you do here at CRHS!"

We applaud these exemplary students and staff for their efforts and thank them for their contributions to the Colts family.
